This is the book upon which the unforgettable 1969 movie starring Maggie Smith was based. Muriel Spark’s witty and intelligent novel centers upon the influence the charismatic, dedicated, and unorthodox Miss Jean Brodie exerts over a select group of students at the staid Marcia Blaine School for Girls in Edinburgh, Scotland.
One of that select group, the crème de la crème, will eventually betray her.
The Spectator wrote, “Remarkable: Surprises are systematically reduced until there is only one left, and it is like the stab of a stiletto.”
The film version does not seem to be available for streaming. The DVD is available from Amazon for $52.99.
